In the Year of the Unity of Russia, NOVAT launches a series of concerts Milestones of the Russian Land.
The author of the concept, Vyacheslav Starodubtsev, the chief stage director of the theatre, suggests plunging into artistic reflection on the crucial moments of Russian history, reflected in musical images – from ancient origins to the present. The Milestones of the Russian Land unite the past and the present, reminding of the power of culture as the basis of national identity.
The first concert of the grandiose cycle is dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and the 135th anniversary of the birth of one of the greatest Russian composers, Sergei Prokofiev. The program combines his two large-scale works that have become musical symbols of national history and national spirit - the cantata Alexander Nevsky and the oratorio Ivan the Terrible.
Prokofiev's works, based on his music for the famous films of Sergei Eisenstein (Alexander Nevsky, 1938; Ivan the Terrible, 1942), amaze with their emotional power, vivid imagery and depth of artistic intent. In them, heroism and tragedy, personal fate and historical scale merge into a single sounding entity, conveying the greatness of the epochs, the drama of fateful events and the power of national unity.
The monumental masterpieces will be performed by soloists of the Novosibirsk Opera, the Symphony Orchestra and the Combined Choral Group of the main, additional and children's choirs of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Student Choir of the Novosibirsk State Conservatory named after M. Glinka, the Choir of Soloists of the Vocal Department of the Novosibirsk Music College named after A. Murov College. A special guest star, theatre and film actor Dmitriy Dyuzhev will appear on the Siberian stage in Ivan the Terrible.
This evening will not only be a meeting with the outstanding music of the 20th century, but also a reminder of the moral values and spiritual power that have always shaped the path of Russia.
