The artist’s 120th anniversary: Ivan Kozlovsky on the Novosibirsk stage

Today, on March 24th Russian music society celebrates Ivan Semyonovich Kozlovsky’s 120th anniversary. He was a national opera legend, who left a significant mark in the history of the Novosibirsk opera and ballet theatre. In October 1949 the Siberian theatre hosted several guest performance of this outstanding tenor of the XX century.

During October 1949 the People’s Artist of the USSR, soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre participated in 9 performances, gave a recital and took part in the young Siberian opera company’s first tour to the Kuzbass.

During this tour the artist sang one of his best parts, Lensky from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, for six times in total: three times at the Novosibirsk theatre and three more during the October tour, first being in Novokuznetsk (Stalinsk), then in Prokopyevsk and in Kemerovo. Besides that, the famous artist performed Alfred in Verdi’s Traviata, Faust in Gounod’s opera of the same name, Prince Sinodal in Rubinstein’s Demon, and Dubrovsky in Napravnik’s opera Dubrovsky. The famous singer finished his tour on 31st October in Novosibirsk with a recital.
