The chief of NOVAT’s ballet company Denis Matvienko met the audience on 16 May. The Honored Artist of Ukraine and the four times Gran-Prix winner of the international competitions chose to discuss the contemporary choreography and the premiere of “Peer Gynt” ballet, which is to be performed 23 and 25 May.
“I never followed the discussion of ballet performances – noted Denis Matvienko – but after the “Peer Gynt” premiere I decided to read the feedback section and found, to my surprise, that people were really impressed.”
The art director of NOVAT’s ballet company also noted that many dancers revealed new bounds of their skills during the rehearsals of Edward Klug’s ballet. “We found out that it’s easier for the freshmen to master the contemporary choreography, which requires more freedom of movement – noted Denis Matvienko – after the premiere some guys admitted they didn’t quite believe in this performance: there’s little dancing, some kind of masks… But when the rehearsals began, they kindled, despite the process was emotionally exhausting.”
At the same time, the chief noted that it is not the thing to stage contemporary performance just to fulfill the repertoire. “It’s necessary to stage fine performance that the audience would love to discuss – states Denis Matvienko – we made a huge leap to the future with this performance.”
But there is few talented choreographers like Edward Klug, capable of creating something fresh, pointed Denis Matvienko. “For this moment, Edward Klug is one of the most relevant choreographers – states the chief of the Novosibirsk ballet company – we have some sort of soul affinity. I get what he wants to say through his plastique, all the deep emotions. I won’t hide, we have plans on staging the ballet with our company exclusively. But Edward has a very busy schedule, so this won’t happen until 2019.”
The next “Peer Gynt” performance by Edward Klug will take place 23 and 25 May. Tickets are available on the website and at the theatre box office.
