On the 6th of June, the Pushkins day, NOVAT would like to present the performance The Queen of Spades. The Game. Traditionally, the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet theatre stages a performance, based on works of the greatest Russian poet.

There are more than 20 operas and more than 10 ballets based on his works, and all of them, in different periods were presented in the Novosibirsk theatre repertoire. The operas Eugene Onegin and Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgskys Boris Godunov, Glinkas Ruslan and Lyudmila, Rimsky-Korsakovs Tale of Tsar Saltan, Russalka (Mermaid) by Dargomyzhsky, Rackmaninovs Aleko, Stravinskys Mavra; the ballets The Bronze Horseman by Gliere, The Fountain of Bakhchisarai by Asafieve and thats not the full list of the theatres performances built on Pushkins worlds.

The Pushkin times at the theatre started in the first year of its work. The second premiere based on Pushkins works at the theatre, opened on 12 May 1945, was Tchaikovskys Eugene Onegin. This performance has returned to the stage five times, and the overall amount of Pushkin-based performances comprises 390 shows.

The Queen of Spades. The Game, the most mystic performance of the music theatre world, will be staged for the seventh time at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet theatre on the Pushkins day. For the present day, its 350 different versions of The Queen of Spades that has been staged at the Novosibirsk theatre. The upcoming performance is based on Tchaikovskys score and directed by Vyacheslav Starodubtsev. As we know, the original Pushkins story is quite different from Tchaikovskys libretto; even the name of the main character is changed Hermann is the surname of the protagonist in Pushkins world, and in the libretto Herman is the name of the character. The destiny of the characters is not so tragic in Pushkins works, unlike the opera Lisa gets married and Herman, though goes mad, doesnt die; even some characters of the libretto are not presented in the original story. The general story telling of two masterminds is quite different: Pushkins story is not as psychologically intense as the tragic, high-pitched mystic opera of Tchaikovsky.

Dedicated to the anniversary of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin The queen of Spades. The Game performance will be shown 6th of June and recorded by the OTS TV-channel. The opera will be aired on 9th June at 21:00 on the OTS TV-channel.
