On May 12, 1945, the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre opened its doors to the audience for the first time. The theatre is the same age as the Great Victory, the Siberian Colosseum, the symbol and pride of Novosibirsk!
For 80 years, the theatre has produced 450 opera and ballet performances, many of them included in the golden fund of Russian and world art. About 20 thousand performances took place on our stage, which were attended by almost 30 million guests! The theatre toured in 30 countries of the world and 30 cities of Russia.
Today, NOVAT is one of the largest cultural centres in Russia, combining the academic traditions of classical art and modern approaches to stage directing and set design.
On the anniversary day, just like 80 years ago, Mikhail Glinka's great opera Ivan Susanin is performed on our stage, and a live broadcast takes place on the square in front of the theatre so that even more Novosibirsk residents can share this holiday with us.
