Thriller Opera

December 22, 2016

NOVAT is preparing another premiere. This time stage director Vyacheslav Starodubtsev's team is going to present Un Ballo in Machera opera by Giuseppe Verdi to the audience. The libretto was written after a play by Eugène Scribe, the French dramaturge, which tells us a story of assassination of the Swedish king Gustav III at a masquerade ball in Swedish Opera. Yet, under the pressure of censorship the plot had to be changed; as a result, the action takes place in America, where puritans wield the scepter, and the victim is not a crowned head, but the governor of Boston. Premiere of the new blood-stained drama that features both treacherous love and mystic sorcery, while the resolution takes place during a pompous festivity of a masquerade ball, will be held on February 17.

Our photo report features the meeting of the production team with the Company of the Theatre before the start of rehearsals.
