Sofia Fainberg

Sofia Fainberg graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2010 and the same year joined the Mikhailovsky Opera. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she performed the vocal part in the ballet Spartacus, Varvara in the St Petersburg première of Janáček’s Kát’a Kabanová, staged by Niels-Peter Rudolph, and Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin (production by Stanislav Gaudasinsky). She took part in the concert performances of Bizet’s Carmen (Mercédès) under the baton of Vasily Petrenko, Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Zerlina) and Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta) under the baton of Mikhail Tatarnikov, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden (Lel) under the baton of Dmitri Jurowski.

Nowadays at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, she performs mezzo-soprano parts in the operas by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Antonín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, Pietro Mascagni, Boris Asafiev, and Engelbert Humperdinck.
