Yulia Gertseva graduated from the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. When still a student, she was invited to be a soloist of the St Petersburg Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre (Mikhailovsky Theatre). Gertseva’s concert répertoire includes Songs and Dances of Death by Modest Mussorgsky, Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi, Roméo et Juliette and Les nuits d’été by Hector Berlioz, Alexander Nevsky by Sergey Prokofiev, as well as romances by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov.
The singer has performed at La Scala, La Fenice, at the Mariinsky Theatre, Madrid Royal Opera, Reina Sofía Palace of the Arts in Valencia, German Opera in Berlin, as well as at the opera venues of Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, Dresden, Florence, Bologna, Modena, Piacenza, Catania, Liege, Antwerp, Turin, and Tokyo. She has cooperated with Zubin Mehta, Georges Prêtre, Lorin Maazel, Mstislav Rostropovich, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Semyon Bychkov, Yuri Temirkanov, Valery Gergiev, Colin Davis, Gianandrea Noseda, Eugene Kohn, Pierre Fournier, Teodor Currentzis, Dmitri Jurowski, Vincenzo Scalera, Andrea Bocelli, Elena Obraztsova, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Violeta Urmana, Liliana Cavani, Marcelo Álvarez, Marco Berti, Marcello Giordani, José Cura, Ildar Abdrazakov, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Inva Mula, Carmela Remigio, and other renowned conductors, directors, and singers.
In 2016, she founded the International Pedagogical Project La Musica di Julia Gertseva in Lugano (Switzerland).
