Winner of international competition
Komlósi studied music at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music of Budapest and attended specialising classes at the Academy of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. In 1986, she debuted in Verdi’s Requiem opposite Luciano Pavarotti under the baton of Lorin Maazel. She performed at Wiener Staatsoper, Frankfurt Staatsoper, then in 1990 she debuted in Teatro alla Scala in Milan and conquered North America and South America.
Komlósi is frequently invited to perform at Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera House Covent-Garden in London, Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest, Opera houses of Munich and Tokyo, Semperoper in Dresden, La Scala, Arena di Verona, Verbier Festival, BBC Proms in London and also performs with Boston Symphony Orchestra.
One of her signature parts is Amneris from Verdi’s Aida, which she performed in 2003 at Covent-Garden in Robert Wilson’s production under the baton of Antonio Pappano, and in 2006 in Franco Zeffirelli’s production for the opening of La Scala new season.
Ildikó Komlósi performs on the regular with Arena di Verona theatre presenting the following parts: Carmen (Bizet’s Carmen), Amneris, Santuzza (Mascagni’s Cavaleria Rusticana), Laura (Ponchielli’s Gioconda). In 2009 she performed Santuzza at the Metropolitan Opera, then in 2013 performed Die Amme from Die Frau ohne Schatten by Strauss. She took part in the performance of Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard's Castle at La Scala under the baton of Alain Gilbert (2015) and the BBC Proms festival under the baton of Charles Dutoit. Her other remarkable parts include: Jezibaba of Dvořák’s Rusalka in Barcelona, Cassandre of Berlioz’s Les Troyens in Deutsche Oper, Berlin
In 2014 – 2015 she performed Azucena of Verdi’s Il Trovatore staged by Dmitry Chernyakov at the Mariinsky theatre. Her future plans include: Aida (Amneris) at Arena di Verona, Bluebeard's Castle in Boston, Tromple-la-mort by Francesconi – world premiere at the Opéra national de Paris. Records of Ildikó Komlósi were released by Decca and BMG.
