Dear friends!
World Theatre Day is celebrated every year on March 27. We are looking forward to meet you in NOVAT on the big day and at the final shows of the first month of spring.
Chamber band Music for us under Natalia Zhuk has prepared a special program for this years’ Theatre Day that includes life-assuring, sublime and elegant baroque works. The new program will feature soloists with NOVAT Yuliya Shagdurova, Svetlana Tokareva, Vladimir Kuchin. In the cozy lobby of our theatre, where the audience and the band are just a step away from each other, you will have an opportunity to enjoy masterpieces by Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Corelli, Castrucci.
Mozart’s Figaro staged by NOVAT’s Artistic Director Dmitri Jurowski and Chief Stage Director Vyacheslav Starodubtsev will premiere on the Second Stage 27 and 29 March. This is the second production in our repertoire based on Mozart’s operatic pieces that continues the Mozartiana series of shows. The audience will once again rejoice at a quick-witted, thought-through musical narrative. Chief Stage Director Vyacheslav Starodubtsev stated, that “Mozart is like a sun! His music beams with the love of life. We drew inspiration for our work from Mozart’s style – refined and whimsical like baroque music, but even lighter, aethereal and sensual”.
Giselle ou les Wilis is scheduled on 30 March at the Main Stage. The most popular romantic ballet of the world derives its plot from a heart-stirring, mystical story of a young girl Giselle, who’s been deceived by a blue blood playboy. Her heart couldn’t handle the deception and the girl died, becoming one of the wilis – vengeful spirits of brides, who died before the wedding. The production team carefully preserved a noble charm of ancient ballet and a mystic Slavic legend atmosphere combining the perfection of classic choreography with elegant scenery created after XIX century plates. The audience will see two debuts at once: Giselle for the first time played by Elizaveta Anoshina and the Count performed by Evgeny Basalyuk.
What makes a man challenge his fate and gamble with his dignity, love and even life? Vyacheslav Starodubtsev explores the essence of game itself in his staging of the most mystical of Russian operas – Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades. The characters of Tchaikovsky’s opera are presented as a deck of cards, each possessing different suits and ranks, playing its particular role in this fatal spread. The Queen of Spades. The Game on 31 March will feature Mikhail Agafonov as Herman, Irina Novikova as Liza, and Gury Guriev will make his debut as Tomsky. The performance is to be conducted by Evgeny Volynsky.
The Marriage of Figaro, Giselle ou les Wilis and The Queen of Spades. The Game fall under The Pushkin card program.
