As part of a large-scale joint project “Renaissance and Baroque Traditions in Russian and World Musical Culture” by the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Novosibirsk Conservatory named after M. Glinka, the Songs of Mozart concert dedicated to the 270th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be held on the Small Stage of the theatre.
Mozart's songs for voice and clavier are a lesser-known but surprisingly elegant part of the great composer's legacy. This is a chamber, intimate facet of his work, which stands apart from grandiose operas and requires special attention. Throughout almost his entire creative life, Mozart composed about 30-40 songs. Many of them were intended for amateur music playing at home – for friends or students, on occasion or as a musical gift.
As for the performers, the songs do not require virtuoso power from them, but subtle nuance and a deep understanding of style. They may seem modest against the background of operas, but it is precisely in this intimacy that the other side of Mozart's genius is revealed – the sincere ability to talk about simple and eternal feelings: joy, longing, love of nature. These works are a necessary key to understanding the holistic image of Mozart, not only an opera playwright and a symphonist, but also a master of elegant, soulful miniature composition that appeals to the listener's heart.
For the first time, a significant part of Mozart's song legacy will be performed at NOVAT, accompanied by a harpsichord. The program of the first part includes chamber vocal compositions (To Chloe, Longing for Spring, As Luise Burned the Letters of Her Unfaithful Lover, etc.), arias and canzones from unfinished operas, instrumental pieces. The second part will present an overview of Mozart's theatrical legacy, which includes Italian opera and the German singspiel. Solo and ensemble numbers from the singspiels Bastien und Bastienne, Zaide, Der Schauspieldirektor, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, the operas La clemenza di Tito, Mitridate, re di Ponto, Così fan tutte. The concert features soloists and the vocal class accompanist of the NOVAT, students of the Novosibirsk Conservatory named after M. Glinka.
