The duet holds a special place in the history of musical art. Already in the Baroque opera, it became the culmination of the action — the moment of the meeting or confrontation of the characters. In the era of classicism and romanticism, composers discovered the inexhaustible possibilities of the ensemble in the duet: voices could merge in harmony or exist in dramatic counterpoint, conveying the subtlest shades of feelings. Later, this form naturally entered the operetta and chamber genre, where the duet acquired an intonation of lightness, lyricism and confidence. It is the ability to combine drama and intimacy that makes duet one of the most beloved forms of musical theatre.
In the first part of the concert, classical duets of the world opera scene will be performed — vivid dramatic episodes and heartfelt lyrical confessions. The second part features popular duets from operettas and duet pages of chamber vocal lyrics. The Night of Duets will bring together opera soloists, orchestra artists and vocal class accompanists of NOVAT on one stage.
